For 2-3 days maybe, but having meltdown in 1 day for some minor convenience is not realistic at all, especially for survivors on some distant planet. Make it quite long (big) so mobs requires time to get around. Of course keep a space open like 2-3 space, so the mobs can get into it and to your people and doesnt attack the fence.
