While cutting hay the tractor will loose power steering, lose forward and reverse travel and im 99% sure the PTO stops as well. Engine is still running fine . All you have to do is shut the tractor down and restart and your good to go until it randomly happens again.The problems with the engine are. 1) Early 1855s did not have an oil cooler, Late 1855s and all 1950-t and 1955s had them. 2) Engines were not properly balances when assembled. 3) Weak rod bolts , if the engine has the 6 point bolts they have not been updated, the 12 point bolts are the updated bolt.Gathering place for members of the red power magazine forum.Mains will roll in but you should check clearance. If you use plasti gauge , be sure to support the crankshaft when checking mains. Just put a piece of cardboard in center main cap and snug it up and that will hold the crankshaft up. If your tractor don't get used a lot I would recomend using aviation /race fuel 100 octane or 110 . This fuel has 10 shelf life and is low lead , you can do a test if you want . Cab tractors had a hole where the wiring harness comes through to power the cab equipment. (lights, fan, etc) I'd say if there is no hole there, yours was an open station from the git go. Then let it set for a few minutes so it can retract. Two sensors under the floor plate on top of transmission, one for even and one for odd gears. Switch the two sensors and see if the problem moves to the odd gears. If so then change the sensor.
